Thais have always been creative people and their creativity has found expression in arts like music and dance. They retain deeply-rooted cultural connections with two great Asian civilisations - China and India and their achievements in the field of performing arts are spectacular.


Music
Thailand has rich history of classical and folk music, later joined by pop and rock. Creation of several kinds of musical instruments, like phin, sang, pi chanai, krachap pi, chakhe and thon, is attributed to them. They borrowed liberally from Indian and Chinese music traditions, and gradually made them very much Thai.

Dance
Thai dance can be segregated into two major categories, namely classical dance and folk dance. The classical dance includes styles like Fawn Thai, Lakhon and Khon. Folk dance forms include number of regional dances, chief of whom are Ram Muay, the ritual dance and Wai Khru, homage to the teacher.
